Cleveland's new FBI chief calls terrorism a priority Tuesday, January 16, 2007 Mike Tobin Plain Dealer Reporter
The new head of the Cleveland FBI just bought a house in Bay Village and is moving his family here. That might not sound like much, but it's a leap of faith for C. Frank Figliuzzi, who last month became the fourth man in five years to head the local FBI office. "I'm here for as long as I can be," Figliuzzi said. "We want to be here and plant roots in the community." Figliuzzi, 44, will lead a field office for the first time after running large FBI units in San Francisco, Miami and Washington, D.C.
Mosque Vandalism
Altaf Ali Executive Director, Council on American-Islamic Relations Pembroke Pines Sun-Sentinel April 24, 2007 People of conscience must condemn mosque vandalism A desecration of a place of worship is an attack against all faiths and warrants repudiation from people of conscience and from our elected officials.
Over the course of years, many mosques and Islamic schools were vandalized and desecrated. More alarming was a plot to destroy more than fifty mosques in Florida.
In South Florida, the most recent vandalism occurred at Nur Ul Islam Academy in Cooper City. A powdery white substance was spread all over the school. Fire-rescue officials indicated the powder was not believed to be toxic. Although this is welcome news, the reality is that if the powder were toxic, then a catastrophic event would have taken place at a facility that caters to hundreds of school-aged children.

Muslim group helps needy studentsBY PARADISE AFSHAR
Altaf Ali had a vision that one day he would organize the Muslim community to join in an end-of-summer tradition: distributing school supplies to needy children.
''I was a student once and noticed a lot of students did not have supplies, and I said one day I'd have to have the Muslim community help out in this,'' said Ali. ``It is our moral obligation -- and not only as Muslims but as Americans -- to give.''

The South Florida Water Management District is calling for water conservation; I say take it a step further and educate Floridians about this indispensable resource. Let the Sunshine State set precedent for others to follow.
It often takes a natural disaster to make people band together, simply because disasters do not discriminate. Let us not wait for a severe drought to unite us under a common goal.
